What is Pittsburgh Media Partnership's Newsroom?

It is a newsroom launched by Point Park University's Center for Media Innovation in 2024. The newsroom focuses exclusively on enterprise and government accountability reporting.

What was the inspiration for the Newsroom?

The initiative was inspired by an American Journalism Project report that showed how cuts in newsrooms lead to less reporting on critical local community issues.

This unique approach to boosting news coverage means Pittsburgh Media Partnership (PMP) news outlets get stories on issues they aren’t covering - and partners in coverage where needed.

The Center for Media Innovation put forward the Newsroom concept for the Pittsburgh Media Partnership as a catalyst for needed change.

The strength of local media depends on organizations working together and with communities in support of journalism that benefits all residents of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Is there a staff? What do they do?

Yes, there is a active Newsroom staff. They produce high-impact stories on issues not broadly covered – or covered at all – by other outlets due to lack of capacity.

The staff does not produce stories from events or stories arising from news releases and press conferences. It also does not duplicate reported stories covered by other outlets.

We distribute stories to PMP outlets first, but stories its staff produced have been republished by newspapers in Georgia, Ohio, Texas, and throughout Pennsylvania.

You will find our stories republished by news outlets throughout the state, with the PMP News Service tagline.
